31 Young Carers had fun this week !

Burgess Hill Youth provided a fun afternoon for 31 Young Carers on Tuesday this week.  They enjoyed lots of activities including the much anticipated slime making!  A big thanks to Diane for volunteering with this and leaving with very pink hands   pinkhand2.

There was also a visit from Trixie’s minibeasts which included snakes  and a bearded dragon.  We also enjoyed arts and crafts, pool, table tennis and air hockey.   The Mustard Seed cafe provided their lovely lunch too.  A big thank you to all volunteers for supporting the event.  This was supported by Crossroads Care South Central and supported by the Town Council.  Click on the images to see a bigger version.

Childline launches app – FOR ME

Childline has launched an app that is the first to provide counselling to young people in need of help, directly through their mobile devices.

The app has been named ‘For Me‘ to ensure that it can be discreetly installed.

This means that if someone happens to see the young person’s phone, they can’t tell it’s a Childline service.

Created by young people, for young people.

For Me‘ was created by four teenagers who realised there was an urgent need for young people to have easy access to confidential advice and support.

When Childline first launched over 30 years ago, all contact was over the phone, with many calls being made from telephone boxes.

How children and young people contact Childline now is dramatically different:

71% of counselling sessions are delivered online via email and 1-2-1 chat.

Last year, 1.8 million sessions on the Childline website were conducted via mobile devices.

The app is free to download from the Childline website.

Many hands don’t spoil the broth

New volunteer Tim Worsfold met with Debbie Mann and Thomas Costick (aka WebBhyouth) at the BHYouth HQ to discuss the Club’s website and Facebook page.

New volunteer, Tim Worsfold.

Tim has kindly stepped forward to help with the website and blog, thereby doubling the existing number devoted to that task 🙂

A good meeting was had, and Tim went away straining at the leash to leave no stone unturned. We all agreed that many hands make light work, while taking care to avoid the Too Many Cooks conundrum.

Hall bookings online

By popular demand, a form has been added for Hall Bookings.

This is an update to the bookings calendar page, and it now sits at the top level of the menu bar.

The online form allows booking details to be submitted by email.

While this is being tested, people are advised to also phone their booking through in the usual way. More details on the Hall Bookings page.
