Young Carers – Bushcraft Activities

Young Carers enjoyed a day at Bedelands Nature Reserve for a Bushcraft activity led by Mark Hedgecock. The event was led by Jackie Cooper with the support of Burgess Hill Youth volunteers and Lions Young Leader in Service volunteers.
The group enjoyed a variety of activities all without the use of technology! These included learning how to light a fire without matches and testing how different materials burn, printing using leaves, flowers, stones and cotton fabric, jewellery making, games using the natural environment, toasting marshmallows for s’mores and very competitive den building.

Young Carers – Circus themed event!

Young Carers enjoyed a Circus themed event at Westall House, Abbeyfield Care Home. The group met at Burgess Hill Youth and were transported by a volunteer driver from Burgess Hill Girls School driving the bus to the Care Home in Horsted Keynes. The ethos of the care home is to build inter-generational activities, and this was the fifth event that we were invited to.
On arrival the young carers were escorted to the dining room where the residents were already gathering, for a circus workshop where the young carers attempted to learn 9 circus skills including juggling, stilt walking and plate spinning. They then had the opportunity to ‘showcase’ their new skills to the residents who were present for the entire afternoon. After tea the children and residents were entertained by ‘Jimmy the Juggling Jester’. This was a lovely afternoon with lots of interaction between the children and residents.
